SNP Schlawien advises on major hydropower project on the Inn River
The commercial law firm SNP Schlawien advised VERBUND Innkraftwerke GmbH in a water law planning approval procedure/approval procedure for the expansion and efficiency enhancement of the Inn power plant Jettenbach/Töging. In detail, this included the drafting of various official applications, participation in the scoping and discussion meetings, advice on the handling of objections and the conduct of negotiations with objectors. The project requirements affected all facets of environmental and planning law. The project volume amounts to approx. 250 million euros.
The new construction of weir and power generation plants as well as sealing and dam adjustments on the approx. 20 km long Inn Canal, which at the time of its construction was the largest construction site in Europe, will increase the electrical output of the hydropower plant from 85 MW to 118 MW, and the annual power generation - the so-called standard working capacity - will rise from currently around 560 GWh to around 700 GWh per year. This new capacity covers the annual demand for electrical energy of around 200,000 households with environmentally friendly, sustainably generated electrical energy.
The major project with a procedure duration of less than four years, which is subject to approval law, was completed with the entry into force of the planning approval decision of 19.07.2019. As a result of the careful balancing of interests and concerns by the project management, the approval was not challenged in court, which is a rare exception for such major projects today.
